which is wrong because the text must be between the color tags
so I changed it to
[color=#FF80FF]Is my font in color?[/color]

You should select your text first then apply the color.

Tin, I cannot find the fonts drop down list. Is it missing or is it just that I can't find it? I now cannot figure out how to change the font.

Since the upgrade, the code to let you choose font is lost
But you can still use font by manually using the font tag
like this
[font=fontname]your text[/font]
where fontname can be one of the following values:
Sofia
Abel
Annie Use Your Telescope
Cutive Mono
Just Me Again Down Here
Kirang Haerang
Rochester
Schoolbell
The Girl Next Door
Waiting for the Sunrise
Open Sans
Great Vibes
Sacramento
Tangerine
Calligraffitti
